David Gumbrell, speaker and author of Lift, Going up even if teaching gets you down, which offers 39 ways (one for each week in the academic year) to start a conversation about well-being and resilience. Covering a diverse range of themes and topics, the book is designed to provoke thinking that will lead to a discussion about staff well-being. He has been a teacher in Surrey for over 20 years, in five different schools across the county. David worked his way up from NQT to Headship, holding positions of responsibility, including NQT mentoring, along the way. Throughout his career, he has always endeavoured to develop a team, to nurture an individual teacher’s career and to protect the well-being of children and staff. The Resilience Project is a natural progression to this.
The session will be a combination of practical tips, scientific research, visual images and lots of metaphors to make all the key messages real and relevant. David draws applicable material from his book ‘, from the 12 elements of the Values-based Education Teacher Resilience Survey, and from 25+ years of experience in education.
