Phonics Programme

About the Phonics Programme

Led by Excalibur Teaching School, the DfE funded SSIF project aimed to improve pupils’ mastery of basic phonic knowledge to develop speed and fluency so that the children become confident, mature readers with a passion for reading.

This programme covered a wide geographical area, supporting schools in Wiltshire, Swindon, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset.

Led by Excalibur Teaching School Phonics Programme Director Jenny Violette, the Phonics programme used a hub model, with 5 Teaching school hubs each delivering the programme to a group of schools in their area. 52 schools were supported with staff training and SLE support over an 18-month period.
